Carl Junior Davis passed in peace at the age of 81, on Tuesday, February 4 , 2020 surrounded by his loving family, in Richlands, Virginia, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Mavisdale, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie Hubbard Davis and Grace Virginia Phillips Davis. As young men often did in those days, Carl took his place in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War era. After returning home, he began a long career in the coal industry, working for Jewell Ridge Coal Company for 38 years, and owning and operating several mines for the next 11 years. Because he was never one to sit still for very long, he worked at The Silver Spur over the next decade before he decided to finally retire. Carl had a great love and affinity for music, and over the years he has had the opportunity to share his musical love and talent of singing and playing the base and the guitar. In his young years, he sang bluegrass/country with a small band and later gave his life and talent to God, giving him the glory for his talent and everything in his life. In his quiet days, he enjoyed trolling the lake in his john boat while leisurely fishing the day away. Carl was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. Over the years he donated his time, money and talent as a carpenter to several churches in the area before settling down and becoming a member at the Greens Chapel Church in Paintlick and in lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made to the Greens Chapel Church in his memory.
