Douglas Harold Wimmer

Douglas Harold Wimmer, age 68, of Pounding Mill, Virginia, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 in a Roanoke, Virginia hospital. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late William “Bill” Wimmer and Lola Mullins Wimmer. Harold was the Student Coordinator at Twin Valley High School and had been an educator for over 46 years with the Buchanan County School System. He graduated from Whitewood High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from University of Pikeville, and his Masters Degree from Radford University and Bluefield College. He was awarded the Buchanan County School Board Teacher of the Year in 2010. Harold loved his profession and he loved the kids that he worked with year end and year out. The school was Harold’s life and seeing his students succeed brought him more joy than one could imagine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell Wimmer and Mark Wimmer. Survivors are: His Wife: Rita Wimmer Son: Lance Wimmer and wife, Jaclyn of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Brother: Billy Brian Wimmer and wife, Val of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Grandchildren: Phenix Wimmer Funeral services for Douglas Harold Wimmer will be conducted Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 1pm at the Twin Valley High School Gymnasium, 14449 Dismal River Rd, Pilgrim's Knob, VA 24634, with Pastors Gary Keen and Kevin Horn officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Jacob Lester, Caleb Keen, Walter Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Jared Cooper, Anthony Mullins, Clyde Wimmer, and Preston Wimmer. Twin Valley family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia and from 12pm until 1pm on Wednesday prior to the funeral at Twin Valley High School.
