Edith Ruby Fletcher Perkins, age 95, of the Bearwallow section of Jewell Ridge, VA, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Edith was born on April 14, 1924 in Bearwallow, VA and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Minerva Tolliver Fletcher. Edith loved to be outdoors, enjoying her gardening. She was not just a homemaker; she was a devoted mother to her children and loved being a caretaker; but most of all she was devoted to her Lord. She was a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Lee Perkins; daughters, Cathy Sheahan and Patricia Ann Perkins; son, Anthony Dale Perkins; and several brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by: Her Daughters: Elaine Altizer and husband, James of Bandy, VA Reba D. Karabec and husband, Richard of New York Phyllis Combs and husband, Donald of Tierra Verde, FL Freda Sue Dye and Darrell Vandyke of Pounding Mill, VA Arlene Villanella and husband, Tony of New York Sons: Jimmey Perkins and wife, Patsy of Baptist Valley, VA Lonnie Perkins and wife, Teressa of Jewell Ridge, VA Paul Perkins and girlfriend, Shelia Castro of Oakwood, VA David Perkins of Jewell Ridge, VA Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews along with several family and friends. The funeral service for Edith Ruby Fletcher Perkins will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the family officiating. Interment will follow at the Perkins Family Cemetery in Jewell Ridge, VA. Pallbearers will be Steven Altizer, Scotty Altizer, David Perkins, Shannon Perkins, Bruce Perkins, Zachary Perkins, Kevin Walters, and Michael Griffith. The Perkins family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home.
