Floyd Rufus Elswick, age 86, of the Smith Ridge section of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at his home. He was born in Jewell Ridge, Virginia and was the son of the late Pierce and Mary Sybil White Elswick. He was a lifelong resident of Smith Ridge and was a retired miner from Pittston Coal Company. He was a member of the UMWA and was of the Holiness faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Elswick; son, Floyd Rufus Elswick, Jr.; step son, Billy Mullins, Jr.; brothers, James Elswick and Raymond Elswick; and sister, Loma Elswick. Survivors are: Sisters: Louise Mintz of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Flora Kinder of Appomattox, Virginia Norma Lorch of Albermarle, NC Grandchildren: Billy Mullins, II and Angie Smith Great Grandchildren: Morgan Joyce, Amelia Joyce, and Sammy Smith Funeral services for Floyd Rufus Elswick will be conducted Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11am at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Joe Horn and Rev. Delmar Somoskey officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Dakota Mintz, Zachary Helton, Ray Elswick, Ron Joyce, Adam Mitchell, and Jake Kinder.
