Joe W. Shelton, age 70, of Swords Creek, VA, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN following a lengthy illness. Joe was born on September 5, 1951 in Red Ash, VA and was the son of the late Fred Thomas and Mattie Virginia Cordle Shelton. He was a retired coal miner and was of the holiness faith. Joe had lived all his life in the Raven and Swords Creek areas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Lovell Shelton; three sisters, Anna Mae Dye, Doris Mae Proffitt, Shirley Annajean Dye; and two brothers, Melvin Shelton and George “Buck” Shelton. He is survived by: His Son: Joe William Shelton, Jr. and wife, Shelly of Raven, VA Sisters: Mary Rose of Richlands, VA Patsy Leveling of Swords Creek, VA Brother: Jeff Shelton of Richlands, VA Grandchildren: Joe William “Will” Shelton, III, Kendra Flinchum and husband, Eric; and Haley Shelton Great Grandchildren: London Shea, Maci Shelton and Kaleb Baugh Several family and friends also survive. Funeral services for Joe W. Shelton will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. David Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Benny Sparks, Eric Flinchum, Will Shelton, Chris Shelton, Thomas Shelton, Bryson Shelton, Logan Shelton ad Jaxton Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Cordle and Mose Cordle. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm on Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
