Marcie "Macie" Alvera Short

Marcie “Macie” Alvera Short, age 88, of the Big Creek section of Richlands, VA passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at her home following a brief illness. Macie was born on September 28, 1933 in Tazewell County, VA and was the daughter of the late Tishie Salyers Hobbs. She was a strong person and loved to garden. Macie was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Arthur Curtis Short, son, Burford Curtis Short; grandchild, Reggie Dean Coleman, brothers, George Dudley Hobbs and Robert Junior Hobbs. She is survived by: Daughters: Bonnie Sue Powers of WV Tishie Ann Arnold and husband, Larry of Richlands, VA Kathy Allen Culbertson and husband, James of Richlands, VA Sister, Alice Dowdy Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A host of family and friends also survive. Funeral services for Marcie “Macie” Alvera Short will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 1, 2021, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with Sister Mae Short officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Short family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
