Marcus Samuel Lowrance Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marcus Samuel Lowrance, III, age 76 of the Baptist Valley section of Tazewell, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in a Roanoke hospital following a brief illness. Marcus was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on March 26, 1946 and was the son of the late Marcus Samuel Lowrance, Jr., and Rachel “Clark” Lowrance Purgason Manuel. Marcus worked as a coalminer for several years at Olga Coal company in Coretta, West Virginia. Marcus later became a jailer at the Southwest Regional Jail in Tazewell, and considered his co-workers to be his family. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and Nascar. He was a proud member of the Shriners organization. Marcus attended the Adria Community Church in North Tazewell, and had lived most of his life in the surrounding area. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Reva Billips Lowrance; his dad that raised him, Buck Purgason. Those that remain to carry on his loving spirit are: His second wife, Tammy Phillips Lowrance of Princeton, WV His sons: Chris Lowrance of Round Up, Montana Chad Lowrance and wife, Marcie of Charleston, SC Aunts, Mary Mercies and Goldie Bryant Step-daughter, Courtney Siers of Princeton, WV Step-grandchildren, Haleigh Heflin, Hunter Siers and Kendall Siers. The funerals service for Marcus S. Lowrance, III will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev.’s Mark Sexton and Kenny Fields officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Larry Perry, Danny Ray Sparks, Rick Holsbrook, Randy Mullins, Paul Billips, Cecil Lockhart. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Caldwell, Russell Harrington, Rocky Fowler, Jim Sizemore, Jimmy Linkous, Josh Caldwell and CD Caldwell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 11:00 am until time of service.
