Shirley Ann Shelton

May 9, 1937 - December 2, 2021

Shirley Ann “Hogey” Shelton, of Richlands, VA, was born May 9, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Herman F. and Lena Belle Houchins Shelton. Following a lengthy illness, she went to her eternal home on Thursday, December 2, 2021, being 84 years of age. Shirley was a devout Christian, with a matchless sense of humor, who was loved by many. She loved her Lord more than anything. In her early years, she was employed by the Dollar General. She also evangelized and attended revivals across the United States for years. After that, she spent most of her life sacrificing and caring for those in her family. She loved both deeply and fiercely. Shirley was a member of the Hill Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church most of her life, and she was also involved in the Fountain of Joy and Charity Full Gospel Assembly. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by one sister, Linda Darnell Jackson; one brother, Herman Edward Shelton; and three special nephews, Scotty Joyce, Marvin Messer and David Mitchell. Those who survive include: Four Nieces: Penny Shortridge and husband, Brandon of the home Ciji Jackson of Richlands, VA Sandra Griffith and husband, Roy of Raven, VA Brandi Nicole Madison of Baltimore, MD Special Great Nephew, Tyler Joyce of the home Special Great Niece, Brittney Puckett of the home Nephew, Darryl Messer and wife, Phyllis of Swords Creek, VA A host of friends and neighbors also survive. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to MSA Home Health and Hospice, especially Paula Slate, for the wonderful care that they provided for Shirley over the last seven months. A graveside service for Shirley Ann “Hogey” Shelton will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Greenhills Memory Gardens, in Claypool Hill, VA with Rev. Tim Lester and Rev. Phillip Horton officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Gary Jackson, Rick Puckett, Brandon Shortridge, and Roy Griffith.
