Tivis Meadows of Fletchers Ridge, Virginia, son of the late Oveal Meadows and Hettie Catherine Horn Meadows, born March 17, 1934, at Clell, Virginia now known as Page Holler, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, making his life’s stay on this Earth 87 years, 5 months and 23 days. Tivis had worked as a coal miner for Island Creek for many years and later retired from Jewell Smokeless. He was a proud member of the UMWA Local of Jewell Ridge, Virginia. His hobby was buying older trucks, repairing them, and fixing them up for resale. He was a member of Harbor Light Holiness Church and was a lifetime resident of the surrounding area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Mollie Bell Altizer Horne Meadows; son, Elden Todd Meadows; stepson, Leslie Keith Horne; granddaughter, Allison Lee Elder and great-granddaughter, Josaphine Bella-Faith Honaker; sisters, Mabel Alice Meadows Blankenship, Wilma Sue Meadows Potter, and half-sister, Ola Gay Meadows; brothers, Robert Lee (Dalford) Meadows, and James Edward Meadows. Those that remain to carry on his spirit are: His wife of 8 years, Mattie Ora McGlothlin Hess Meadows of Rowe, VA His Daughters: Dianna Lynn Vandyke and husband, Rickey of Bristol, TN Mary Alice Elder and husband, Terry of Chilhowie, VA Tammy Kay Wampler and husband, Adam of Haysi, VA Carrie Jane Mitchell and husband, Donald of Raven, VA Sharon Darlene Stilwell and husband, Danny of Paintlick, VA Kimberly Arlene Atkins and husband, Nick of Lexington, NC Sons: Tivis Alan Meadows and wife, Linda of Paintlick, VA Oveal Doug Meadows and wife, Mary of Paintlick, VA Rockie Lee Meadows and wife, Tammie of Rosedale, VA Stepsons: Roy David Horne and wife, Nancy of Piney Flats, TN Randolph Joe Horne and wife, Debbie of Raven, VA Wesley Carl Hess of Johnson City, TN Jeffrey Alan Hess of Greenville, SC Daughters-in-law: Tamara Dawn Hale Meadows of Lebanon, VA Linda Alene Ramsey Horne of Belfast, VA Sisters: Edith Frances Meadows Hale and husband Donald of Page, VA Oakley Meadows Keen and husband, Wallace of Pounding Mill, VA Tivis is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and 4 step great-great-grandchildren., numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Bro. Alan Meadows, Bro. Nick Atkins, and Bro. David Lowe officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm until the time of service. Interment will be on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at 11 am at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
