Vernon Graham Altizer
July 29, 1946 - April 19, 2022
"I won’t be far away, for life goes on. Just listen with your heart and you’ll hear my love all around you." Vernon Graham Altizer, of Bluefield, Virginia, earned his wings to be with his heavenly father on April 19, 2022 in Princeton, WV following a brief illness. He was born July 29, 1946 in Hartwell, WV to Noah and Ozella Altizer. He married the love of his life, Sheila, on April 27, 1968, and together they built an amazing life. From a young age, he grew to love fast cars and motorcycles. He raced at Cedar Hills in Richlands, VA. He was a hardworking man from an early age. He started at General Instruments, Goodyear in Princeton, WV, and an automotive shop at Coney Island. After that he started his massive career in coal mining. He worked at Massey Coal in Premier; Massey Coal in Oceana; and then went to Robertson Inc. in Princeton. He also started the Altro Machine Shop. In 2000, he started A & A Quality Parts. He had a wealth of knowledge to share and many would come to him for information on parts and cars; especially Fords, Harley Davidson’s, guns, and antiques. He had a love of auctions; more importantly you certainly did not bid against him. In 2009, he started Twin City Auction Company, where friends became family. He was the kindest, most selfless man, always putting others before himself. To know him was to love him. He took great pride in his family and everything he did he did for them. He was proud of his home and his yard and especially loved decorating for Christmas. He also loved to take care of his neighbors. He had a heart that cared completely. He had the smile that brought so much pleasure. He had the love that brought joy beyond measure. Survivors include: His wife of 54 years, Sheila; daughter & son-in-law, Tara & Eric Crawford of Bluefield, VA; Grandchildren, whom he loved with everything in him, Cody and Katy Crawford, Bluefield, VA. Special sister & brother-in-law, Cookie & Amoth Hayes of Springville, VA; surviving aunt, Alma Smith of Advance, NC. Many nieces & nephews whom he loved dearly and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Ozella Altizer; brother, Connie Altizer; and his son V.G. Altizer. What a reunion there was when he entered his heavenly home.
