Arnold Shrader

Arnold C. Shrader, age 88 of North Tazewell, VA died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Brandon Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke, VA. Born July 6, 1921 at Newhall, WV he was a son of the late Clarence and Ida Shrader. Mr. Shrader graduated from Big Creek High School and was a retired coal miner and supervisor with Consolidated Coal Company at Bishop, VA with over thirty years of service. He was a fifty year member of the Tazewell Masonic Lodge # 62 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Shrader was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church at North Tazewell, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Carter; three brothers, Warren, Reginald “Bud”, and Ernest Shrader. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Ruth Billings Shrader; one daughter, Rita Palmer and husband, Gordon of Bland County, VA; two sons, Chuck “Ronnie” Shrader of Roanoke, VA and Tom Shrader and wife, Joyce of Tazewell, VA; one sister, Fern Brooks of Aiken, SC; seven grandchildren, Kelly Conrad and husband, Robert of Orange Park, FL, Jennifer Heatherington and husband, Tim of Alexandria, VA, Leslie Adkins and husband, Travis of Leesburg, VA, Tommy Shrader of Rosedale, VA, Matthew Shrader and wife, Sarah of Midlothian, VA, Tony Williams of Richmond, VA, and Terri Gordon of Vinton, VA; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and many loving friends. Funeral services for Arnold C. Shrader will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Kenny Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where Masonic Graveside Services will be conducted by members of the Tazewell Masonic Lodge #62 A.F. & A.M. Pallbearers will be Tommy Shrader, Matthew Shrader, Tim Heatherington, Robert Conrad, Travis Adkins and Bobbie Shrader. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010. In addition to floral expressions, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 – 1942.
