Bailey Price

Bailey Price, age 101, of Whitewood, VA passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at his home. Mr. Price was born in Corn Valley and raised in Saltville, VA. He was the son of the late Ira and Sally Boardwine Dye Price. When he was just 8 years old, he started working for the Stuart Land and Cattle Company; then later moved to Jewell Valley in 1941 to work in the coal mines until he retired. He was a member of the UMWA Local #1327 of Jewell Valley. In 1968, he moved to the Laurel Creek section of Whitewood, VA, where he lived until his passing Monday morning at which time he made his last move to his heavenly home. Mr. Price had been a Christian for 60 years and he helped establish several churches in the area. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the Ray of Hope Church of Jewell Valley. Before there was a social services, at Christmas time, he would take groceries and toys to families who would not have had a Christmas. If he knew there was a need, because he loved God and people, he would try to meet that need. Mr. Price leaves behind a legacy of Christian Faith: Faithful to the church, Faithful to give, and Faithful to worship. His family and hundreds of church members will always remember his shouts of “Hallelujah.” He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Price; stepfather, John Dye; five brothers; two sisters; one grandson and one great grandson. He is survived by: Two Daughters: Armalee Brown of Whitewood, VA Carrie McCoy of Citrus Springs, FL Three Sons: Junior Price of Bastian, VA Jeff Price of the home Bob Price of Elkhorn, KY Special Neighbors: Arthur and Sue Lawson and Gracen Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, twenty-three great great-grandchildren and one great great great-grandchild and a host of family and friends Funeral services for Bailey Price will be conducted at 2pm on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Bobby Horn, Rev. Eric Hess and Rev. Johnny Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: Bobby Gene Price, Stevie Brown, Scott Brown, Carter Brown, Jamie Horn, Joel Horn, Corey Shortt and Josh Shortt. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jay Lamie, Teddy Addair, Robert Deel and Rev. Jimmy Justus. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Wednesday evening and Thursday evening at the funeral home.
