Beverly "BJ" Rose

Beverly Junior “B.J.” Rose, 86, of Farmer Street, Richlands, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on the morning of July 11, 2014 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. B.J. was born in Cedar Bluff, Virginia on October 27, 1927 to the late George Beverly and Eva Ocie Stephenson Rose. His young years were spent farming with his father. He served his country in the United States Army as a mechanic and sniper. His decorations and citations included the World War II Victory Medal. After his Army discharge he worked in the mines at Jewell Ridge Coal Company. B.J. and Dot were married on April 28, 1951 and for 54 years they have served God and are members of the First Assembly of God Church in Richlands, Virginia. In 1962 B.J. took a position with S & S Machinery / Ingersol-Rand. He retired after 23 years in 1985 and became a self-employed carpenter. During the years, 1978 through 1992, B.J. and Dot provided loving care for several “working moms” and 20 to 25 children. From 1981 to 2014, B.J. was a proud supporter of both his wife and daughter’s Mary Kay business. In 1996, the family started their motorhome travel phase. B.J. loved the co-pilot seat beside his son-in-law traveling all over the United States. B.J. was preceded in death by his father in 1958, his mother in 1976, and by all of his 12 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy “Dot” Rose. Daughter: Beverly Powell and husband, Chris of Hickory, North Carolina. Brother-in-law: Michael Rose and wife, Jennifer of Northern Virginia. Sister-in-law: Connie Wilson of New York. God-Daughter: Madison Shortt of Bristol, Tennessee. Several Nephews, Nieces, cousins, and fur-person, Molly. The family would like to thank primary caregivers, doctors, Pastor Buddy Herald, Pastor Kevin Beard, the Veterans Administration, and others for the loving care he received at his home in Richlands and in Hickory, North Carolina. Great care was given by Preferred Home Health and Legacy Hospice, both in Richlands, and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir and Hudson, North Carolina Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 2:00pm at the First Assembly of God Church in Richlands, Virginia with the Pastor Buddy Herald and Pastor Kevin Beard officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of the Casey Short VFW Post 9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be: Bill Patton, Clyde Roberts, Joe Brown, Ray Brown, John Reedy, and Ronnie Horn. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel from 6-9pm on Monday evening and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. A memorial service will be held on July 20, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Harvest Church in Hudson, North Carolina.
