Mrs. Brenda Darlean VanDyke Dowdy, age 59, of Richlands, Virginia while surrounded by her family and friends entered her eternal life Friday, March 20th, 2009 at a Richlands, Virginia hospital. She was born in Richlands and was a daughter of Mrs. Sarah White VanDyke of Brunswick, Georgia and the late Mr. Elmer Coy VanDyke, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was a 1967 Richlands High School Graduate. She was a former employee of General Shale, Vandyke’s, A-Mart, and was co-owner of Van-Dow Auto Parts. She was a loving wife and mother faithfully serving the Lord and was very active with their nursing home ministries. Survivors in addition to her mother are: Her Husband, Mr. Bert Roger Dowdy Two Daughters: Mrs. Pamela Vanover and husband, David of Norton, Virginia Mrs. Dana Bolling and husband, Jack of Pound, Virginia Mother-In-Law, Mrs. Dana Dowdy of Gratton, Virginia Five Sisters: Mrs. Sue McCoy and husband, Perry of Wahalla, South Carolina Mrs. Wilma Dean Sanson and husband, Hayes “Bud” of Wahall, South Carolina Mrs. Barbara “Bobbie” Wheeler and husband, Thomas of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Mrs. Norma Vassar and husband, John of Roanoke, Virginia Mrs. Delores Miller and husband, Roy of Brunswick, Georgia One Brother, Mr. Elmer VanDyke, Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Grandchildren: Jacqueline Bolling, Sarah Vanover, Elizabeth Vanover, Ethan Roger Bolling, and Davina Vanover. Several sisters and brothers in law also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Brenda Darlean VanDyke Dowdy will be conducted Sunday at 8:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Audie Allen, Pastor Barron Duffy, and Elder Willie Duffy officiating. Interment will be at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia, Monday at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to go to the cemetery are requested to be at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be: Elmer VanDyke, Jr., Larry Dowdy, Bill Dowdy, David Vanover, Jack Dowdy, and Jack Bolling. Honorary Pallbearers: Sammy Dowdy, Mike Dowdy, Michael VanDyke, and all other nephews and nieces. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
