Carol Sue Dowdy

Carol Sue Dowdy, age 70, of Raven, Virginia passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 in a local Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Red Ash, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Matilda “Tillie” McCracken Ball. Carol Sue was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1965. She was a devoted homemaker, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved caring for her family, and was well-known as a great cook. Carol Sue loved to sew, she made clothing, uniforms and costumes and with everything she made, she stitched her love into each and every piece. She was an active church member for 35 years of the Raven Pentecostal Holiness Church and a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several sisters. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Husband of 51 years, Victor Dowdy Her Sons: Mike Dowdy of Raven, VA Rick Dowdy and wife, Linda Dowdy of Raven, VA Larry Ball of Raven, VA Gary Ball and wife, Teresa of Newberry, SC Ronald Atkins of Raleigh, NC Daughter, Gail Bucklin of Honaker, VA Special Niece, Leslie Love of Richlands, VA Sisters: Shirley Lowe of Cleveland, OH Hazel Shelton of Red Ash, VA Brother, Bill Ball of Greensboro, NC Grandchildren, Joshua and Kaleb Bucklin, Jake, Kevin and Dan Ball, Cody Donaldson, Brooke Ball, Stephanie Dowdy, Kassandra Meadows, Corey Cooper and Sydni Douglas. Great Grandchildren, Charlez, Silcox, Sebaztian, Jonathan and Kason. Several nieces, nephews also survive, along with a host of family and friends. Funeral service for Carol Sue Dowdy will be conducted at 7 pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Brown officiating. Interment at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery will be private. Family and friends will serve at pallbearers. The Dowdy family will receive friends from 5-7 on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
