Claude Keen

Mr. Claude Verner Keen, age 84, of Whitewood, Virginia, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. He was born in West Virginia and was the son of the late Gordon Joshua and Louise Breeden Keen. He was a lifelong resident of the Whitewood area and was the owner and operator of Claude V. Keen Trucking Company. He was a graduate of Whitewood High School Class of 1944, a U.S. Army WWII Veteran, a former member of the Buchanan County School Board, a member of Sandy Valley Lodge Masonic Lodge #17 AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Kazim Temple, Odd Fellows, and Kentucky Colonels. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a avid collector of antique cars, knives, and guns. He enjoyed his family which he loved and cherished. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Lynn Keen; one son, Danny Ray Keen; and one sister, Ruby Shepherd. Survivors are: His Wife of 65 years: Caroline “Nell” Ratliff Cole Keen One Daughter: Kim Keen of Abingdon, Virginia One Son: Freddie Keen and wife, Debbie of Whitewood, Virginia Five Sisters: Gay Maxwell of Whitewood, Virginia Martha Compton and husband, Arnold of Brookville, Ohio Alice Coomer and husband, Jack of Dayton, Ohio Shirley Whitt and husband, Larry of Dayton, Ohio Linda Smith and husband, Bob of Beattyville, Kentucky Two Brothers: Clyde Keen and wife, Jerri of Lexington, Virginia Scott Keen and wife, Margaret of Dayton, Ohio Four Grandchildren: Lindsey Keen, Ryan Keen and wife, Crystal, Trey Keen and wife, Angelica, Joshlyn Odum One Great Granddaughter: Shaylyn Brooke Keen Funeral services for Claude Keen will be conducted Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 8:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Pastor John Stapleton and Rev. Jimmie Cole officiating. Interment will be Monday, May 16, 2011 at 1:00pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Those attending the graveside committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30pm on Monday. Pallbearers will be: James Burress, Dean Cole, Graham Cole, Jr., Terry Maxwell, Eugene Maxwell, Scottie Keen, Larry Coomer, Josh Smith, Aaron Dillow, Steve Shepherd, and Bob Keene. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Employees of Claude V. Keen Trucking Co., Charlie Ellis, Gary Anderson, and James Jarvis. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites.
