Clyde Elkins

Clyde Milford Elkins, age 86, of Indian Creek Road in Cedar Bluff, slipped quietly into Heaven on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 following a brief illness. After serving during the World War II, an Army Veteran, Clyde worked many, many years in the coal mines and was a proud member of the UMWA. Clyde was also a lifetime member of the Barnes-Beavers Veterans Post in Tazewell and of the American Legion. Clyde enjoyed watching WWE wrestling, NASCAR racing and Redskins Football over the years. He attended Cross Roads Church in Cedar Bluff and was a lifetime resident of the area. Born in Buchanan County, Clyde was the son of the late Elbert Isaac and Sally Davis Elkins. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by one son, Danny Wayne Elkins; one son-in-law, Timothy Dana Cyphers; four grandchildren, Timothy Wayne Cyphers, Cybil Elise Hill, R.J. Hill and Marissa Rayanne Hill; Brothers, Otis Elkins, Elmer Elkins & Delmar Elkins; and sisters, Myrtle Byrd, Virtie Hylton, and Ethel Sisk Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nannie Lou (Beavers) Elkins, of the home; by his daughters and sons in law, Karen Sue and Teddy Reeves of Claypool Hill; Anita Beth and Randall (Dick) Hill of Cedar Bluff; grandchildren, Jonathan Israel Cyphers, Timmie Melaine Holmes and husband, Mark; Michael Bradley Reeves and wife, Nancy, and Antonio Shawn Hill. Great Grandchildren include, Jacob Cyphers, Bailey Holmes, McKinley Holmes, Elizabeth Reeves, William Reeves, Tiffany Justus and Christopher Peery;. One brother survives, Roy Clayton Elkins. Funeral arrangements for Clyde Milford Elkins are being handled by Hurst Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, where visitation hours will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 15th, and funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 16th, at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Ricky Pruitt and Evangelist Bob Smith. Pallbearers will be, Mark Holmes, Michael Reeves, Ricky Hess, Teddy Reeves, Bobby Holmes and Jonathan Cyphers. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill with military rites be conducted by the Casey Shortt VFW Post# 9640.
