Earnest Jackson,

Earnest Lee Jackson, Sr., age 91 of Belfast, VA departed this life for his heavenly home on Saturday, March 06, 2010 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. He was born June 5, 1918 at Doran, VA and was a son of the late Paris and Frances Whited Jackson. He was a lifelong resident of Russell County and was a member of the East Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Jackson was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was a retired, self employed building contractor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Four sisters: Lucy E. Jackson, Hattie Shelton, Mary Ann Sargent, and Ethel Gillespie. Three Brothers: Joe, Rufus, and Arthur Jackson. Survivors include: His loving wife of sixty-four years, Christine Williams Jackson One daughter: Doris Sword and husband, Robert of Belfast, VA Two sons: Earnest Lee Jackson, Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Belfast, VA, and Joe Jackson and wife, Linda of Pounding Mill, VA Five grandchildren: Melissa Dooley and husband, J.D. of Todd, NC, Joseph Jackson and wife, Kimberly M. of Chilhowie, VA, Jeanette Absher and husband, Kenneth of Sevierville, TN, Beth Sword Finney of Belfast, VA, and Randall Jackson and fiancée, Carlene Keen of Morristown, TN. One step-grandson: Jamie Martin of Tazewell, VA Four great-grandchildren: Tyler and Devin Absher and Makayla and Kendra Jackson. Two Sisters: Martha Jackson of Cedar Bluff, Virginia and Pearl Steele of Claypool Hill, Virginia Many other loving family members and many friends. Funeral services for Earnest Lee Jackson, Sr. will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Larry Robinson officiating with the Rev. Paul Hite, the Rev. Claudie Throgmartin, and Pastor David Lee Horton assisting. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Harold Sargent, Henry Reynolds, Cecil Sargent, Harvey Taylor, Dwaine Combs, and Ezra Harris. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of East Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 in Richlands, VA. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA from 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010.
