Ernestine Keen Honaker

Ernestine “Teen” Keen Honaker, age 88, of Abingdon, VA passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 23, 1933 in Freeburn, Ky she was the daughter of the late William O. Keen and Niccatti Campbell Keen. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Honaker; sister, Aliene Hurley; and brothers, James Leslie Keen, William “Bud” Keen and Ron Keith Keen. Ernestine spent most of her life in the community of Whitewood, VA where she was a grocery store owner and school bus driver for 33 years with the Buchanan County School System. She also was an incredible seamstress touching countless members of her cherished community through crafts, alterations and tailoring. After retirement she moved to Abingdon, VA and continued her sewing business as well as spent time as a private caregiver. She enjoyed cooking and was known for always providing a hot meal and an open door to family, friends, community and even strangers. She loved spending time in her flower garden and always looked forward to visiting others and the next “road trip”. Her infectious, warm smile comforted so many and will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Pama (Gene) Rife of Grundy, VA, Peggy (Richard) Ball of Amelia, VA, William “Bill” Honaker of Abingdon, VA and Shellie Phillips and husband, Michael of Bristol, TN, the joys of her heart, her 11 grandchildren Melissa (Mark) Charles, Rusty (Kristy) Maxwell, Brigette Maxwell, Nick (Britney) Cook, David Ball, Paula Branch, Niccatti Honaker, Josie (David) Cottrell, Zack Phillips, Zander Phillips and Zoey Phillips, her 7 great-grandchildren Isaac (Erin) Charles, Elizabeth Charles, Ethan Charles, Isabella Cook, Deagan Cook, Jett Cook and Rogan Cook, two brothers Bertie (Bobby Lee) Keen and Bobby (Helen)Keen and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services for Ernestine Keen Honaker will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA with Rev. Clyde Wimmer, Jr. and Pastor Dennis Wimmer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
