Florida Daniels Keene

Florida Daniels Keene, age 89, of Doran, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia following a lengthy illness. She was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Garfield and Alcie Osborne Daniels. Florida was a retired housekeeper for various doctors, lawyers, and churches in Grundy, Virginia. She was also a member of the Maple Grove Church of Christ and had lived most of her life in Buchanan County and Tazewell County. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Nelson Keen and second husband, Truman Keene; one step-son, Billy Keene; five sisters, Minnie Lester, Carrie Keen, Georgia Viers, Edna Kelly, and Amy Goss; four brothers, William, Tommy, Deedy, and Roy Daniels; one son-in-law, Lonnie Clifton; two grandsons, Joe Clifton and Charles Nelson Keene. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Those left to cherish her memory include: Three Daughters: Patsy Clifton of Pounding Mill, Virginia Diana “Susie” Cantrell and husband, Harold of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Debbie Ward and husband, Perry of Louisa, Virginia Two Sons: Kennith Keene and wife, Carol of Jolo, West Virginia Dean Keene and wife, Della of Swords Creek, Virginia Two Step Daughters: Hellen White of Hansonville, Virginia Athlene Sweeney of Marion, Virginia Two Step Sons: George H. Keene and wife, Mavis of Leesburg, Virginia Ronnie Nelson Keene and wife, Edith of Hopewell, Virginia 14 Grandchildren, 23 Great-grandchildren Several Step Grandchildren, Step Great Grandchildren, and Step Great-Great Grandchildren Also surviving is a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Florida Daniels Keene will be conducted Friday, June 6, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Brother Bob Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Keen Family Cemetery on Keen Ridge near Paynesville, West Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Perry Clifton, Darrell Clifton, Dillon Cantrell, Daniel Cantrell, Brian Ward, and Donald Ward. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Clifford Williams, Jake Clifton, Lance Horn, Scott Dye, and Tyler Griffith. The family will receive friends after 6:00 pm Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
