Geneva Taylor Lockhart

Geneva Taylor Lockhart, aged 93, passed away peacefully at home in Richlands, Virginia, in the care and presence of those who loved her most on Sunday, January 25th, 2026. She was born on March 9th, 1932, in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Effie May Bryant Taylor and Clovis Lee Taylor. Geneva was a homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family. She was deeply loved by her husband, Roby, and their love for one another was evident to all who knew them. She was a sweet, humble, and quiet woman, often timid in nature, but those closest to her knew she had a subtle wit. From time to time, she would surprise everyone with a wry comment delivered so politely that it left people laughing. She enjoyed playing cards and drawing, and had a quietly mischievous side, marked by an appreciation for small indulgences and endearing quirks, remembered with fond amusement by her family. In the later years of her life, Geneva made her home with her daughter, Peggy, who faithfully cared for her, ensuring she was safe, comfortable, and surrounded by love. She was also rarely without her little companion, Sandy, her beloved dog, who faithfully slept at the foot of her bed each night and brought her comfort and companionship. Geneva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roby Lockhart; her grandson, John Matthew Schoneweis; her siblings, Dorothy Gay Combs, Richard Taylor, Arval Lee “Sonny” Taylor, Tommie Salyers, Beecher Salyers, and William Richardson; and two daughters, Alma Nunez and Susan Mullins. She is survived by her children, Peggy Cyphers Schoneweis and her husband John, and Beverly Ruth Mullins; grandchildren, Shelia Faye McClain and her husband Randy, Michelle Dawn Sturman, Allison Marie Bannerman and her husband Matty, Amanda Jeane Adkins and her husband Cody, Taylor Schoneweis, Gail Price, Terry Dale Vannoy, Robbie Nunez, Andy Nunez, Danny Nunez, Lee Roy Nunez, Jeremy Nunez, and Gregory Nunez; great-grandchildren, Howard McClain, BriYanna McClain, Nolan Adkins, Carah Adkins, Maria Sturman, Mikey Sturman, and Robert Sturman, along with several other great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to MSA for their compassionate care, kindness, and support during their time with Geneva. A memorial service for Geneva Taylor Lockhart will be conducted on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm on Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Josh Vestal officiating. The family will accept friends from 1-2 pm on Saturday afternoon.
