George Messer,

George Messer, Jr. age 74 of Bristol , Tennessee formerly of Rowe, Virginia, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee following a lengthy illness. He was born in Estel, Kentucky and was the son of the late George and Julia Conley Messer. He was a retired coal miner from Jewell Smokeless Coal Corporation of Vansant, Virginia. He attended the Charity Baptist Church in Blountville, Tennessee, and was a life time resident of the Rowe, VA area most of his life before moving to Bristol, TN. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia Ruth Bartley Messer, an infant daughter, Natallia Lynn Messer and two sisters, Avonelle Dotson and Pauline Bailey. Those who survive him are: His loving wife, Lucille Leonard Osborne Messer of Bristol, TN Two Step-sons: Donald Coleman and wife Sherry of Kingsport, TN Kevin Osborne of Bristol, TN Three Step-daughters: Deborah Yates of Bristol, VA Kathy Garr and husband David of Bristol, TN Dawn Cleek and husband Dennis of Kingsport, TN Sisters: Betty Stiltner of Richlands, VA Gladys Hill of Boone, NC Bonnie Halton of Rochester, NY Brothers: Carter Messer of Doran, VA Jimmy Messer of Boone, NC Charles Messer of Austin, TX Several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren also survive him along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services for George Messer Jr., will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday August 10, 2009 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Perry Cleek and Rev. Charles Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills memory gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Relatives and Friends wills serve as pallbearers. Friends may call for visitation after 11:00 am on Monday, August 10 until time of the service at 1:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA.
