George Whitt

Mr. George Harold Whitt, age 84, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passes away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Russell County and was the son of the late William F. and Dora Ethel Dye Whitt. He was a lifelong resident of the Swords Creek area and was retired from Norfolk and Southern Railway. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a member of VFW Post #0208. He attended the Clearview Methodist Church. He loved watching sports and was a huge NASCAR fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Ronald Keith Whitt; four sisters, Helen Justice, Hazel Compenell, Dorothy Stevens, and Olaf Boyd; and four brothers, Guy, Glenn, William Jr., and Jack Whitt. Survivors are: His Loving Wife of 60 years: Maxine Short Whitt One Daughter: Angie Hale and husband, Jimmy of Abingdon, Virginia Two Sons: Bill Whitt and wife, Donna of Honaker, Virginia Doug Whitt and wife, Sandy of Swords Creek, Virginia One Brother: Ronnie Whitt and wife, Loretta of Mechanicsville, Virginia One Special Buddy: Luke Helton Five Grandchildren: Adam Whitt, Brett Whitt, Brittany Hale, Jordan Whitt, and Matthew Hale Two Step Grandchildren: Chad Whited and Bethany Godsey Two Great Grandchildren: Gavin Whitt and Maggie Kay Whitt Three Step Great Grandchildren: Ali Godsey, Lexi Godsey, and Kylie Godsey Funeral Services for George Harold Whitt will be conducted Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 7:30pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Pastor James Brooks and Rev. Dennis White officiating. Interment will be Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 1:00pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Adam Whitt, Brett Whitt, Jordan Whitt, Matthew Hale, Greg Harmon, Brian Wright, Tom Harmon, Marty Short, and Sam Short. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call after 6:00pm Saturday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
