Gussie Tipton

Gussie Doile Tipton, age 82, of North Tazewell, VA passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV. She was born October 14, 1927 at Helen, WV and was a daughter of the late Wells Russell Miller and Rebecca Clyde Adams Miller. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Mrs. Tipton was a member of the Red Hats Society in Tazewell, VA and a member of the Canebrake Freewill Baptist Church in Canebrake, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Tipton; one sister, Pearl Irene Mangus; four brothers, Larry Jack Miller, William Russell Miller, Eugene Massey Miller and Howard Lester Miller. Those left to cherish her memories include: one daughter, Anita Colwell and husband, Jerry of North Tazewell, VA; one son, Thomas C. (Scrap) Tipton, Sr. and wife, Judy of Baptist Valley, VA; two sisters, Susie Downey of North Tazewell, VA and Georgia Ruth Lawson of Abingdon, VA; three brothers, Joe Allen Miller and wife, Wilma of Rock Hill, NC, Lonnie Jerry Miller and wife, Christine of Pulaski, VA and Robert Scott Miller and wife, Mary “Tiny” of Kershaw, SC; three sisters-in-law, Karen Miller of Nashville, TN, Frankie Miller of Pulaski, VA and Lenora Miller of Bandy, VA; four grandchildren, Robin Lee Hayes and husband, Larry of North Tazewell, VA, Kevin Thomas Tipton and wife, Tara of Morgantown, WV, Mark Anthony Tipton of Richlands, VA and Thomas C. Tipton, Jr. and wife, Pearl of Bramwell, WV; four step-grandchildren; Lawrence Hayes and wife, Amy of Tazewell, VA, Dennis Hayes and wife, Leann of Baptist Valley, VA, Ray Hayes and wife, Angela of Johnson City, TN and Carrie Akers and husband, Robert of Bluefield, VA; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany Dawn Hayes, Karleigh Tipton, Jackson Tipton, Decora Tipton and Giaea Tipton; eight step-great-grandchildren, Lauren Hayes, Alex Hayes, Anna Hayes, Austin Hayes, Blake Adkins, Jason Hayes, Jonathan Hayes and Ethan Torres; one step-great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Funeral services for Gussie Doile Tipton will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Rev. Darrell Long and Jerry Colwell officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 -9 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010.
