Harold Jackson

Harold Jackson, age 88, of Pounding Mill, Virginia, passed away in the early hours of the morning, on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at his home in Pounding Mill, VA. Harold was born on April 29, 1934, in Jewell Ridge, VA and was the son of the late Luther Jackson and Lena Cooper Jackson. He grew up in the Chicken Ridge area and attended Whitewood High School. Harold started his mining career early on with his brother Jimmy. He started Harold Jackson Trucking and eventually bought the first Kenworth in the area that affectionally became known as “Bertha.” He also owned and operated many coal mines in Virginia and Kentucky, including Little Egypt Coal Company and Pyramid Mining where he worked alongside his sons. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend He enjoyed working on his trucks, taking care of his yard, traveling to revivals and gospel singings, and always cherished his multiple travels to the Holy Land and delivering bibles to China. Harold loved attending church and was a member of the Chicken Ridge Holiness Church and most recently attended Pine Creek Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Delaina Annette Jackson; his sister, Edna Wendler; brother, Jake Jackson; and infant brother, Cecil Jackson. Survivors include, Wife: Mary Jane Jackson Sons: Raymond Harold Jackson, and wife Karen, of Pounding Mill, VA Richard David Jackson, and wife Paula, of Ocala, FL Stepchildren: Denise Starr Smith, and husband, Mike Dale Stuart Shreve, and wife, Jean Donna Sue Maynard, and husband, Larry Sister: Betty Smith of Jewell Ridge, VA Sister-in-law: Betty Jackson, of Pounding Mill, VA Brother: Jimmy Jackson, of Raven, VA Grandchildren: Kayla Anette Jackson Whited and husband, Bradley Patrick Harold Jackson Ryan David Jackson Step-Grandchildren: Kevin Dale Shreve, and wife, Tina Christopher David Shreve, and wife Jessica Kimberly Dawn Smith, and husband Freddie J. Kenneth Anthony Smith, and wife Amanda Kirk Andrew Smith, and Justin Ashley Marie May, and husband, Andrew Great-Grandson: Jaxson Krew Whited Ten Step-Great-Grandchildren, also survive. A huge thanks to Legacy Hospice & Palliative Care for their exceptional care that was given to Harold over the past couple of years. He loved each staff member and enjoyed their visits thoroughly. Funeral services for Harold Jackson will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 7:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev Jim Richardson officiating. A Committal service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, in Richlands, Virginia. Friends may call from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the funeral home prior to the service, on Monday. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Those attending the committal are asked to arrive at the funeral home and be placed in procession by 10:30 am Tuesday.
