Homer Vencill

Mr. Homer M. Vencill, 82, of Richlands, Virginia, formerly of Hanover County, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at his home in Richlands following an illness of several weeks. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Marsh Millard and Ida Florence Smith Vencill. He had made his home in Richlands, Virginia for the last 31 years and was a retired employee of the Town of Richlands. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Martha Elizabeth Brown Vencill; one son, Eddie Wayne Vencill; one grandson, Joseph Wayne (Joey) Vencill; one son-in-law, Cecil Ray Melton; two brothers, F. Sherman and Therman M. Vencill; five sisters, Myrtle M. Elswick, Minnie E. Coleman, Bertha B. Wells, Dora E. Doughton, and Pearl M. Hicks. Survivors are Daughters Cara Margarette Melton of Richlands, Virginia Patsy Deloris Vencill of Richlands, Virginia Sons Robert Millard Vencill and wife, Alice of Mechanicsville, Virginia Guy Thomas Vencill and wife, Debra of Richlands, Virginia Sisters Altie I. Helton of Richlands, Virginia Bethel E. Arnold and husband, Albert of Pounding Mill, Virginia Brothers Herman Vencill of Sandston, Virginia Ralph M. Vencill of Conneaut, Ohio James A. Vencill and wife, Edna of Mechanicsville, Virginia Grandchildren Lisa K. Owens, Christopher R. Melton, Kimberley R. Traylor, Stephen M. Melton, Karen S. Vencill, Gregory S. Melton and Jason A. Vencill Unofficial Grandchildren, Robert C. McAllister and Amanda L. Edwards as well as 10 Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Homer M. Vencill will be conducted at 11:00am Friday, March 16, 2007 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Clyde Ball officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Eugene Ringstaff, David Ascue, Rudolph Taylor, J.J. Fuller, Jay Chambers and Rick Arms. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Nassif, Steve Martin, Denny Combs, and Teddy Lloyd. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia Thursday evening after 6:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
