Jack Junior Elswick

Jack Junior Elswick, age 91, passed away Friday, August 5th surrounded by family at the Commonwealth senior living home in Claypool Hill, VA. Jack was a resident of Bug Road in Pounding Mill for the past 45 years. He served his country in the United States Army stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1949-1951 and was a retired coal miner. Jack was the best Volkswagen specialist mechanic in this area. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, racing anything that had wheels, and watching westerns. Jack loved his daughters fiercely and had a big heart for all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for having a quick wit and being the first in the room to crack a joke. His light-heartedness and laid-back personality will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Jack and Gladie were charter members of Reynolds Ridge Community Church. He was born February 11th, 1931, in McDowell County, WV, and was a son of the late James Earl and Cora Alice Caywood Elswick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Gladie Elswick; son, Jackie Lee Elswick; son-in-law, John Graham; grandchild, Jamie Lynn Elswick; two sisters, Barbara Sue Whitt, and Juanita Keith; and three brothers, Gene Elswick, Charles Elswick, and Doug Elswick. He is survived by Daughters: Joanne Emiline Bumgarner and husband, Bill of Richlands, VA Eunice Marie Graham of Burkes Garden, VA Elizabeth Jane Elswick of Pounding Mill, VA Sarah Elizabeth Cooke and husband, Jimmie Aaron of Gratton, VA Hannah Janell Elswick Rosario of Sevierville, TN Brother: Paul Elswick and wife Linda of Rosedale, Virginia Grandchildren: Rodney D. Whited, II, and wife, Melissa of Horsepen, VA Nicole Elswick Jessee and husband, Bryon of Richmond, VA Rosella Whited Rumley and husband, Wesley of Richlands, VA John Robert Graham and wife, Elizabeth of Abingdon, VA Whitney Graham Burke and husband Myles of San Antonio, TX Melady Grace Elswick, Jace Henly Cooke, Harmonie Elswick, Symphonie Elswick and Josephine Blosser Seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter expected in October, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive Funeral services for Jack Junior Elswick will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Lonnie Perkins and Rev. Paul David Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at the Cole Cemetery on Bearwallow, near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Friends may call from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at the funeral home prior to the service. Rodney Dean Whited II, Wes Rumley, Jake Graham, Aaron Cooke, Ricky Keen, and grandsons, nephews, and friends will serve as pallbearers.
