James Shelton

James Robert Shelton, age 63, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at a V.A. Hospital in Salem, Virginia after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of Pearl Baldwin Shelton of Richlands, Virginia and the late James Edward Shelton. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired coal miner. He was a US Army Vietnam War Veteran. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, James “Bud” Asbury, James Henry Roberts; and one brother, Tommy Lee Shelton. In addition to his mother, he is survived by: His Wife, Trudy Faye Shelton Six Daughters: Vickie Sue Gilley Kidd and husband, Chuck of Maben, West Virginia Linda Gilley Asbury and husband, James of Wardell, Virginia Mary Elizabeth Gilley Robinson and husband, Heath of Fayetteville, West Virginia Tressia Lynn Gilley Boyd and husband, Jerald of Richlands, Virginia Theresa Ann Gilley Honaker and husband, Steve of Richlands, Virginia Michelle Shelton Lester and husband, Robby of Richlands, Virginia Four Sisters: Nancy Peters and husband, Ed of North Carolina Kaye Mason of Richlands, Virginia Sandra Cordle and husband, Bobby of Raven, Virginia Carolyn Smith and husband, Dennis of Abingdon, Virginia Three Brothers: Mike Shelton of Pounding Mill, Virginia Johnny Shelton of Lexington, Virginia Danny Shelton of Bland, Virginia Nine Grandchildren: Emily Honaker, Jacob Lester, Heather Roberts, Ashley Underwood, Steve Jackson, Nathan Roberts, Barry Roberts, Kelly Shelton, Hunter Blake Asbury Six Great Grandchildren Three Dogs, Nikki, Buddy and Foxy Lady also survive. Funeral services for James Robert Shelton will be conducted Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military rites. Sons-in-Law will serve as pallbearers.
