James Strouth

Mr. James Henry Strouth, age 71, of 761 Jewell Ridge Road, Richlands, Virginia passed away Monday, March 27, 2006 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia on Smith Ridge and was a son of the late Ira and Rosa Lou Young Strouth both Tazewell County residents. He attended Richlands High School and Southwest Virginia Community College. He was employed by General Motors Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. He was a former Miner and a former owner and operator of J.H.S. Coal Corporation. He worked for 17 years as a Deputy Sheriff for Tazewell County Sheriff?s Department. He was known to deal in Real Estate and he also was known as an excellent Trader, Businessman, Certified Electrician and Mine Foreman. He was a member of the UMWA Local #6167 Jewell Ridge, Virginia and he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Virginia State Sheriff's Association. He was also a Member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 AF&AM. James had a very active role in the Coal Miners Memorial project in Richlands, Virginia and was a volunteer and supporter of the A Child Shall Lead Them Food Pantry in Tazewell, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: One Sister: Martha Meadows and 3 Brothers: Raymond Lester, Lee Harlan, and William Perry Strouth. Survivors Are: His Wife: Ruth Ellen Meadows Strouth 2 Daughters: Annetta Ellen Strouth of the home Edwina Strouth Crawford and husband, Michael Todd of Richlands, Virginia Son: Ira Ladell Strouth of Richlands, Virginia 2 Sisters: Edith Dailey and husband, Oscar of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Goldie Webb and husband, Donald of Jewell Ridge, Virginia 4 Very Precious Grandchildren: Amanda Strouth, Katie Strouth, Hannah Crawford and Emma Crawford He is also survived by: Several Special Nieces and Nephews, Host of Friends and Family and Special Friends: Charlie, Pam and Matthew Irvin and Leonard and Lois Lane. Funeral Services for Mr. James Henry Strouth will be conducted Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Herald, Rev. Jerry Casey, Rev. Rick Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. John Willis, Dr. Mario Stefanini, Dr. Larry Mitchell, Dr. Roy Wright, Lawrence Strouth, Bill Osborne, McDonald?s Breakfast Gang, Flea Market Buddies and Don Dye. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. A Masonic Service for Mr. Strouth will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police or the A Child Shall Lead Them Food Pantry in Tazewell, Virginia.
