Johnny S. Webb

Johnny S. Webb, age 88, of Keen Mountain, Virginia passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, in Bristol, TN. Johnny had lived with his daughter and caregiver, Kim and husband, Robert, for the last eight years. He was of the Baptist Faith. Johnny was the son of the late Major Lee and Mona Wade Webb. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Peggy Altizer Webb, on October 24, 2013; brothers, Harold Webb, and Harman Webb; sisters, Emily Hubbard, Virginia Cole, Ruby Wells, and Frances Casey. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Johnny was a 1955 graduate of Garden High School, and if you knew him well, you know he would eat, breathe, and sleep coal mining. He loved simply raising his kids and living his life in the Keen Mountain Camp of Buchanan County. He always said, “no better people in the world than the Camp people”. When Johnny wasn’t mining coal, which wasn’t that often, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his kids, grandkids, and family in Bath County, Virginia. He also enjoyed “miners’ vacation” every year with family and friends at the Rike Haven in Myrtle Beach, SC. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, the big fish fry’s and fish tales that followed, a good ole’ chew of tobacco, and many Rook games. Those left to cherish Johnny’s memory are: His Son, Walter Christopher Webb (Cynthia) of Bland, Virginia Daughters: Kimberly Meade (Robert) of Bristol, Tennessee Traci Hackney (Brian) of Abingdon, Virginia Grandchildren: Tammy Meade Smith (Greg), Mike Webb (Stephanie) of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; Matt Webb (Emily) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Trevor Vilacha of Bristol, Tennessee; Brooks Vilacha of Tazewell, Virginia; Crew Vilacha, of Bristol, Tennessee, and Rhytts Hackney, of Abingdon, Virginia Great Grandchildren: Makayleigh, Seth, Sage, Mia, Kase, and Warner Several family and friends also survive. A celebration of life for Johnny S. Webb will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Webb family will receive friends from 12-1 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
