Kenneth J. Mulkey

Kenneth J. Mulkey, Sr., age 83 of North Tazewell, VA died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital. He was born June 6, 1933 at Pounding Mill, VA and was a son of the late Andrew Mulkey and Vivian Trivett Mulkey. Mr. Mulkey was a 1951 Graduate of Tazewell High School and attended Bluefield College. Kenneth was an avid Tazewell Bulldog Baseball fan. Mr. Mulkey was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, having served with the 25th Military Police Company. He had worked for many years as an Engineer, having retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a carpenter who enjoyed working with wood. He enjoyed fishing and arranging reunions with the members of the 25th Military Police Company. Mr. Mulkey was a member of the Tazewell Christian Church (Disciples o Christ) in Tazewell, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wilovene Waddell; one brother, Nelson Mulkey. Those who survive to cherish his memories include his loving wife, Rachel Marrs Mulkey; two sons, Kenny Mulkey and wife, Sandy of Thompson Valley, VA and Michael Mulkey of Tazewell, VA; one brother, Raymond Mulkey and wife, Nancy of Bluefield, VA; one sister-in-law, Mary Etta Mulkey of North Tazewell, VA; three grandchildren, Nikki Allison and husband, Mike of Thompson Valley, VA, Chad Thompson and wife, Angel of Gordonsville, VA, and Todd Mulkey of Tazewell, VA; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends also survive. Funeral Services for Kenneth J. Mulkey, Sr. will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Tazewell Christian Church (DOC) in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Chris White officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. The young men that Kenneth held in high regard during his life will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA.
