Leondis Letcher Horn

Few people in this world leave a lasting impression on one's life, Leondis Horn was such a person. He would do anything for others. Many times he went and tillered neighbors' gardens, cut hay for them, and would not accept any money. He tried to be good to everyone, and treated them like he wanted to be treated. He had worked most of his life as a coal miner and was a proud member of the UMWA Local 7327 and had attended the Smith Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. He lived and breathed farming, he would plant a huge garden, and then spend weeks canning his harvest. He would give away as much as he kept. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, and he loved to eat everything he caught. He was a lifelong resident of the area and the last member of his immediate family. Psalms 104:4 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man; that he may bring forth food out of the earth. Leondis Letcher Horn age 91, drew his first breath in heaven on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Leondis was born January 25, 1933, on Horn Mountain and he was the son of the late Joseph Pleasant Horn and Mae Keen Horn. Leondis could be a bit ornery when he wanted, but he was a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His grandchildren would often refer to him as their hero. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Myrtle Mullins Horn, and his son, Eric Dale Horn; full siblings, Trula, Lorraine, and McClellen; half-siblings, Lovis, Jenettie, Edna, and Clayton, and step-siblings, Viola, Mona, Red, and Ed. Those that remain to carry on his spirit are his: Daughter, Teena Gilbert, and her husband, Daniel of Jewell Ridge, VA Grandchildren: Jason Gilbert and his wife, Carry His Princess, Kriste “Sissy” Coleman and her husband, Tater Great-grandchildren, Kevin and his wife, Hannah, Abigail, Jessica Son of the heart, Jim Miller Special friends, Rodney Nelson, Ronald Keen, John Oits Altizer, Fred McGlothlin, Bernard Shortt The funeral for Leondis L. Horn will be at 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Joe Horn officiating. Interment will be on Sunday, at the Brown Family Cemetery on Brown Ridge near Jewell Ridge. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:45 AM and leave for the cemetery at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Terry Keen, Kevin Stevens, Tater Coleman, Rodney Nelson, Ronald Keen, John Otis Altizer, J.R. Elswick and Chris Jenks. The visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
