Ms. Lillian Nelson Kinder, age 76 of the Bandy community died suddenly Saturday, June 9, 2012 at her home.She was born February 4, 1936 at Bandy, Virginia and was the daughter of the late H.M. Nelson and Mary Harrison Tatum.She was employed as a bookkeeper at General Instruments in Tazewell until it closed. She then worked at Virginia Foods and K-Mart until her retirement due to poor health.Her favorite pastimes were gardening, canning and taking care of her dogs, cats and wild animals. She loved her mountains and her home place. She was patriotic and loved her country and the men and women who served to keep her country free. Her favorite motto was “Don’t buy it, if it isn’t made in the USA.” She donated regularly to charities, one of her favorites being the Shriner’s Children’s Ministry. She loved and cherished her family, enjoying their company and she took great pride in their accomplishments. Her friends were dear to her and many of them came to her aid and helped her tremendously after her health declined. She spoke with sadness of the deaths of her family members and friends. Whereas they could no longer come to her, she went to be with them, as quoted in II Samuel 12:23. She is sorely missed, loved and fondly remembered by her family, friends and neighbors.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Kinder; two brothers, Junior Nelson and Thomas Edward Nelson.She is survived by:Her brother, James Harrison Nelson and wife Boots of Owensboro, KYHer sister, Patricia Tatum Martin and husband Bryan of Tazewell, VASister-in-law, Ima Jean Nelson of Tazewell, VAHer Nieces, Mary Hooper, Denise Nelson and Patsy NelsonHer Nephews, Don Nelson, Jamie Nelson, John Nelson, Roger Nelson and Carl Martin She is also survived by a host of great nieces, great nephews and many friends.The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening, June 12, 2012 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia where funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 pm by the Rev. Marvin Nipper officiating. A graveside Memorial Service and Entombment will be conducted at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home by 1:30 pm on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Carl Barker, Don Nelson, John Nelson, Dave Strouth, Bryan Martin, James Harrison Nelson, Jr, Roger Nelson and Carl Martin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Butch Altizer, Sam Bentley, Kevin Delp, Jim Delp, Tom Honaker, Mike Owens, Charles Sparks and J.R. Sutherland. In Lieu of flowers, it was her request that donations be collected for the Shriner’s Children’s Ministry.
