Lillie Marshall

Lillie Garnet Marshall, age 93 of North Tazewell, VA passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell, VA. She was born November 23, 1917 at Falls Mills, VA and was a daughter of the late Lee Grant McNew and Emma Obedia Kirk McNew. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Tazewell, VA where she was also a member of the Women’s Mission and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA. Mrs. Marshall was a lady who had a passion for quilting and enjoyed doing crafts. She had worked for many years in the meat department at the former Acme Supermarket in Tazewell, VA. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude S. Marshall; four brothers; four sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Shelthy Denton and husband, Harvey of Tazewell, VA; her son, Claude R. Marshall and wife, Claudine of Tazewell, VA; nine grandchildren, Gwenith Norton and husband, Bruce and Kimberly Dillon and husband, Todd, all of Culpepper, VA, Debra Templeton and husband, Raymond of Rocky Gap, VA, Gregory Marshall and wife, Esther and Todd Marshall, all of Atlanta, GA, Marsha Richardson and husband, Jack of Abingdon, VA, Angie Deel, Anthony Lockhart and wife, Katie, and Ben Lockhart, all of Lenoir, NC; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister in-law, Marie Pruett of Abbs Valley, VA; special caregivers, Ola Whitt, Dottie Watson and Shirley Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. Funeral services for Lillie Garnet Marshall will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Dr. Greg Demarco officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Pallbearers will be David Christian, Richie Richardson, Greg Marshall, Todd Marshall, Ben Lockhart and B.C. Peak. Honorary pallbearers will be Burgess Hess and George Maxfield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 – 1942; or to a favorite charity.
