Luther Davis

Mr. Luther McKinley Davis, age 88, of Raven, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side Thursday, December 01, 2005 following a brief illness. He was born in Marvin, Virginia and was the son of the late Oliver and Ollie Proffitt Davis, both Buchanan County, Virginia natives. He had made his home in the Raven, Virginia area most of his life and was a retired miner from Knox Creek Coal Company. He was a member of UMWA Local #6199 Red Ash, Virginia. He was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran and a member of John Ratliff American Legion Post in Grundy, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Davis; one daughter-in-law, Claretta Davis; and one son-in-law, William E. Hale. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors are: His Wife of 63 years: Mary Elizabeth Brown Davis Four Daughters: Barbara Sue Keene of Raven, Virginia Patsy J. Ball and husband, Dennis of Richlands, Virginia Lisa M. Stanley and husband, Buddy of Richlands, Virginia Stephanie M Tatum and husband, Steven of Dublin, Virginia Two Sons: James L. Davis of Morristown, Tennessee Jerry J. Davis and wife, Marie of Claypool Hill, Virginia Five Grandchildren: William E Hale, II and wife, Eloise of Charlotte, NC; Karen Davis Beggs and husband, Mark of Church Hill, TN; Dr. Tamra Davis of Morristown, TN; Sheri Hale of Belfast, VA; and Jamie H. Davis of Morristown, TN. Two Great Grandchildren: Avalon Elizabeth Beggs and William Dahmon McKinley Hale Funeral services for Mr. Luther McKinley Davis will be conducted Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 11:00AM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia. Burial will be private. Pallbearers will be: Dennis Ball, Ira Brown, Allen Brown, Leslie Brown, Ray Fortner, John Davis and Mark Beggs. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Frankie Hurt, June Horton, Dr. James McVey, and Wes Shelton. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 6:00pm-9:00pm on Friday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
