Marvin Whitt

Marvin B. Whitt, 94, of Scott Depot, West Virginia, formerly of Tazewell County, Virginia, went to be with Jesus on March 3, 2008 in Hurricane, West Virginia. He was born September 5, 1913 in Swords Creek, Virginia and was the son of the late Charles H. and Amanda Puckett Whitt, both former Tazewell County, Virginia natives. He had made his living as a coal miner for 37 years in and around Tazewell County, Virginia where he lived with his beloved wife, Edith L. Fleming Whitt. Mr. Whitt was a born-again Christian and a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Richlands, Virginia.. Mr. Whitt had lived at Regency Place in Scott Depot, West Virginia for the past nine years. Marvin was known for his wit and happy nature, and always putting the needs of others above his own. He was loved by a host of family and friends; and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith on March 8, 1999; infant son, Joseph Edward Whitt in 1941; five brothers, Henry, Robert, Edward, Bill, And Ralph Whitt; and three sisters, Exie Whitt Hess, Pearlie Whitt Jones, and Madge Whitt Mabe. Survivors are Sons Jerry B. Whitt and wife, Susie of Kokomo, Indiana Larry P. Whitt and wife, Joan of Hurricane, West Virginia Charles Dahnmon and wife, Sharon of Flatwoods, Kentucky Brother David Eugene Whitt and wife, Betty of Dayton, Ohio Eight grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Rhonda, Melony, Marvin, Teresa, Charles Jr., Jeff, Holli, and Matthew. He also had eight beloved great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Marvin Whitt will be conducted at 11:00am Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. David Brannock officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be, Matthew Whitt, Charlie Whitt, Jr., Jeff Whitt, Marvin Larry Whitt, Sean Jarrell, Jake Pittman, and Mike Haun. The family will receive friends at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia from 6:00 until 9:00pm Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 402 Suffolk Avenue, Richlands, Virginia 24641.
