Mary Davis

Mary Elizabeth Davis, of Raven, Virginia peacefully went to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening, June 5, 2007 as her children maintained a loving atmosphere around her. She was born August 3, 1924 in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late John and Mandy Hager Brown. Mary was a retired nurse of 25 years, and relished in the profession of caring for others throughout her years as a nurse. Mary Elizabeth was an advocate of the medical profession and steered many of her children and grandchildren in that direction. Her greatest joy was the gathering of her family and having them all around her. Mary always made the time for each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their smiles and hugs were a delight only a grandmother could garner. Mary Elizabeth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, her husband, Luther McKinley Davis, two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Davis and Barbara Sue Keene; one daughter-in-law, Claretta Davis; one son-in-law, William E. Hale, two sisters, Lucy Short, Lelia Fortner, and four brothers Rufus, Clyde, John and Clint Brown. Those who survive her are: Three daughters: Patsy J. Ball and husband, Dennis of Richlands, Virginia Lisa M. Stanley and husband Buddy of Richlands, Virginia Stephanie M. Tatum and husband, Steven of Dublin, Virginia Two Sons: James L. Davis of Knoxville, Tennessee Jerry J. Davis and wife, Marie of Claypool Hill, Virginia Five Grandchildren: William E Hale, II and wife Eloise of Charlotte, NC; Karen Davis Beggs and husband, Mark of Church Hill, TN; Dr. Tamra Davis of Knoxville, TN; Sheri Hale of Belfast, VA; Jamie H. Davis of Knoxville, TN. Two Great-grandchildren: Avalon Elizabeth Beggs and William Dahmon McKinley Hale. Special caregiver and friend, Helen Bales of Richlands Funeral services for. Mary Elizabeth Davis will be held, Friday, June 8, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Ralph Horton officiating. Private Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Dennis Ball, Ira Brown, Allen Brown, Leslie Brown, Ray Fortner, David Pinion and John Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dr. Mario Stefanini, Dr. James H. McVey, Dr. Ernest Moore, Former staff and employees of Mattie Williams Hospital and Dr. Edson Knapp. Friends may call after 6 pm on Thursday evening, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia, and memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
