Mattie Mulkey

Mrs. Mattie Beatrice Cooley Mulkey, age 93, of Pounding Mill, Virginia went to be with her Lord on February 13, 2006 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born in Maxwell, Virginia on November 18, 1912 to the late George Tucker and Myrtle Maxwell Cooley. Mattie had lived in the Maxwell and the Pounding Mill area all of her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to her family. She was a member of the Pounding Mill Christian Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and also her extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Henry Garland Mulkey, a grandson, Mark Douglas White, four sisters, Hazel Cooley, Annie Cooley, Mary Ellen Cooley and Betty White, three brothers, Victor Cooley, Blair Cooley and George Cooley. Survivors are: Daughters: Maxie Hamm and husband, Dennis of Pounding Mill, Virginia Brenda Altizer and husband, Buddy of Pounding Mill, Virginia Sue White and husband, Doug of Bluefield, Virginia Five grandchildren: Tim White and wife, Anda of Richlands, Virginia David White of Bluefield, Virginia Amy Hagy and husband, Kenny of Ivanhoe, Virginia Kim Landers of Springville, Virginia Tracy Altizer of Springville, Virginia 10 Great-Grandchildren: Austin White, Tonia White, Amber Boyd, Regina White, Matt White, Jeremy White, Ashley White, Paul Wright, Blake Wright and Tyler Cole. One Great Great-Granddaughter: Abigale Kegley One very special long-time friend: Hazel (Babe) Asbury of Maxwell, Virginia and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Mrs. Mattie Beatrice Cooley Mulkey will be conducted, Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Bill Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Grandsons and Great Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
