Michael Smith Richardson

Michael Smith Richardson, age 61, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away Saturday, June 06, 2015 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of James “Jim” Alexander and Ella Katherine Smith Richardson of Jewell Ridge, Virginia. He had made his home in the Jewell Ridge area all of his life and was the owner and operator of Appliance Plus of Southwest Virginia, Inc of Richlands, Virginia. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1972 and had worked for Pittston Coal Company for 19 years. He was a member of the Jewell Ridge Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years and was chief for 16 years. He enjoyed his horses, golfing, races, westerns, and his grandchildren. Mr. Richardson was also a member of the Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Avery Lee and Narcie Hylton Smith and Alex W. and Janet Richardson. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: Wife: Marquetta Joy Davis Richardson Daughters: Lori Leigh Underwood and husband, Doug of Pegram, TN Erica Michal Brown and husband, Jerry of Richlands, Virginia Sylvia Jayne Randolph and husband, Jonathan of Abingdon, Virginia Sisters: Missy Baker and husband, Rick of Brentwood, TN Nancy Scott and husband, Tom of Brentwood, TN Edye Schau and husband, Dan of Woodbury, TN Brothers: Sandy Richardson and wife, Diana of Richlands, Virginia Bill Richardson and wife, Kokie of Richlands, Virginia Grandchildren: Chloe Allyn Brown, Bryson Lee Brown, Brady Michael Brown, and Neyland Beau Randolph Funeral services for Michael Smith Richardson will be conducted Monday, June 8, 2015 at 7pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Malcolm Stuart officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 1pm at the Smith Family Cemetery on Smith Ridge near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6pm-9pm Monday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
