Robert D. Williams Sr.

Robert DeWitt Williams, Sr., age 86, of Cedar Bluff, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at his home. Robert was born on March 5, 1939, in Cedar Bluff, VA to the late George G. Williams and Hattie West Williams. He was a Richlands High School Class of 1958 graduate. He was a charter member of the Jewell Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. Robert enjoyed farming, gardening, and woodworking. He was a lab technician in the mining industry and U.S. Army Vietnam Era veteran. He attended Richlands First Christian Church and was a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Hess, Martha Williams, and Catherine Williams; and brothers James Williams and Willis Williams. Those who remain to cherish Robert’s memory are: His loving wife of 59 years, Christine B. Williams Daughter, Tina Williams of Cedar Bluff, VA Son, Robert D. Williams, Jr. and wife, Mendy of Bluefield, VA Brothers: Urshell Williams of Bluewell, WV George Edward Williams of Paintlick, VA Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Brenda Williams, Kathy Novak, Brenda Lawson and husband, Henry, and Kenneth Barnnett and wife, Betty Grandchildren: Kendra Williams, Katherine Cason and husband, D.J., Joshua Desper and wife, Cammie, Ellie Williams, Cody Williams Granddaughter of the Heart, Michaela Barnett 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends also survive. Special thanks to Legacy Hospice for their care during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Richlands First Christian Church, P.O. Box 1307, Richlands, VA 24641 A graveside service for Robert DeWitt Williams, Sr., will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Mausoleum #4 at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA, with Kip Kirby officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be: Henry Lawson, Kenneth Barnett, Kip Kirby, Chris O’Byrne, Michael Newberry, Charlie Helmandollar. Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews, friends, and family. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Members of the UMWA Chaplain Corps Sub-21 will conduct honors at 2pm on Friday prior to the service.
