Sarah Mitchell VanDyke

Sarah Mitchell VanDyke, age 82, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, April 21, 2025. Sarah was born on November 30, 1942, in Buchanan County, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Noah Matthew Mitchell and Pearl Grace Hagerman Mitchell. She had lived most of her life in the Jewell Ridge area and was a homemaker. Sarah was dearly loved by all that was fortunate enough to know her. She had love, compassion, and a giving heart and was known for her tireless energy to cook and feed others. She had an immeasureable love for her family and above all for our Lord and Savior. Sarah recited the Lord’s Prayer at the beginning of each prayer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nine brothers, Everette Mitchell, Noah Mathew Mitchell, Jr., Auldie Mitchell, Hubbard Mitchell, Dennie Mitchell, Reese Mitchell, Wilkie Mitchell, Laymon Mitchell, Aubert Mitchell, and one sister, Naomi Mitchell Lusak. She is survived by: Her Loving Husband of 48 years, Keith Vandyke Loving Son, Matthew Shelton of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Loving Twin Daughters: Karen Monk of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Sharon Stiltner of Rosedale, Virginia Sisters: Mildred Cruze of Cleveland, Ohio Reda Mitchell of Belfast, Virginia Three Grandchildren: Adam Chambers, Lindsey Hubbard and husband, Morgan; and Lauren Stevens and husband, Liam Three Great Grandchildren: Salem Stevens, Eryn Hubbard and Juniper Hubbard A host of family and friends also survive. Special thanks for all the love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Funeral services for Sarah Mitchell Vandyke will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Charlie Cooper and Jimmy Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at the Mitchell Family Cemetery on Horse Ridge, near Jewell Valley, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Zach Riffe, Nathan Keen, Ronald Mitchell, Donald Mitchell, Allen Mitchell, Dean Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell, Ray Mitchell, Danny Mitchell, Kenny Mitchell, Clifford Shelton, Jacob Shelton, Shelby Arnold, and Greg Schydzik. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Mitchell, Buford Mitchell and Duncha Mitchell, Jamie Ashby and Kim Ashby, Windell Mitchell, Wesley Keen, Kevin Keen, Randy Mitchell, Delenna Mitchell, Jimmy Hensley and Kathy Hensley, Jane Sams, Barbara Rumson, Lara Kiser, Bobby Hale, Kim Sheppard, Patty Barto, Marissa Bostic, Darlene McCullough, and Maryainne. The Vandyke family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.
