Shirley Yvonne Keen

Ms. Shirley Yvonne Keen, age 84, of Brown Mountain area of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, drew her last breath here on earth on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born March 2, 1941, in Buchanan County in the Pea Patch area and was the daughter of the late Booker B. Cooper and Pearl Mae Wimmer Cooper. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Shirley was an avid seamstress, quilter, cook, and canner. She was very well known for her canned mixed pickles and was always asked to make her meatloaf, potato salad, and fried apple pies for every occasion. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them, which was her greatest joy. Shirley loved to play games and had a passion for decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist faith and a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Charlie Lee Keen, brothers, Charlie Cooper and his wife, Bertha, Mearl Cooper, Millard Cooper and his wife, Anita Sue, Doil Cooper, Glen Cooper; sisters, Geraldine Reed and her husband, Willard, Agnes Lester and her husband, Bill, Patricia “Sue” Lawson and her husband, Arthur. Those who remain to carry on her loving spirit are: Daughter, Teresa Keen Reynolds, and her fiancé, Gary Clyburn of Marion, VA Son, Terry D. Keen, and his wife, Susie, of Jewell Ridge, VA Sister, Josephine Shelton of Pea Patch, VA Sisters-in-law, Shelia Cooper, and Wanda Cooper Grandchildren: Austin T. Hicks and his wife, Taylor of Bluefield, WV Jonathan L. Keen and his wife, Whitney of Lebanon, VA Andrew L. Hicks and his wife, Cortney of Abingdon, VA Samantha I. Keen Marshall and her husband, Joseph, of Kingsport, TN Savannah I. Keen of Jewell Ridge, VA Great-grandchildren Jason Lee Keen and Callan Hendrix Roark-Hicks Canine companion Milo Many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive. Shirley was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. Services for Shirley Keen will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, with the Reverend Clyde Wimmer and Reverend Malcolm Stuart officiating. The interment will take place on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Cooper Family Cemetery, located in Pea Patch. The family will line up by 11:45 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. The visitation will take place on Sunday, beginning at 5:00 PM and continuing until the time of the service. Leon Reed, Keith Reed, Michael Gilbert, Wes Cooper, Todd Cooper, Michael Cooper, Brad Lawson, and Zadin Lawson will serve as pallbearers.
