Pamela Helbert

Pamela Jean Perrine Helbert, 63, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Clinch Valley Medical Center following a six-year battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She was the daughter of Wanda Bailes Perrine of Richlands, Virginia and the late Kenneth James Perrine. Pam was born on August 18, 1959 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Richwood, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Richwood High School, Class of 1977, and a graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College. Pam was a light to everyone she encountered, she fed countless people her meals filled with love, and was a mom to anyone who needed a mother. She loved the Lord and relied heavily on her faith throughout her life. She remained positive even in the toughest days of her battle with lymphoma. Pam always found the best in every situation she faced, and was a great example of strength and encouragement. Pam loved history, music, University of Kentucky basketball, Elvis Presley, and the sound of her family’s laughter. Most of all, she loved being “Mammy” to her favorite little girls - Madi and Hen. She gave them spoonfuls of sugar, endless treats, and the very best macaroni and cheese. She was a true example of what a grandmother should be and the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman - virtuous, strong, and selfless. Pam was a blessing to those around her and lived her life in accordance with her favorite scripture: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. -Romans 8:28 In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Quill and Minnie Bailes and Elbert and Hilda Perrine, many precious aunts and uncles, and her beloved Yorkies, Jack and Gus. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Raymond Keith Helbert; daughter, Katy Helbert Elswick and husband, Freddie Jr. of Richlands, VA; son, Eli Helbert and wife, Nicole Leigh of Richlands, VA; two precious granddaughters, Madilynn Willow Gray Helbert and Henley Caroline James Elswick; mother, Wanda Bailes Perrine, of Richlands VA; special aunt, Mary “Butch” Perrine Mullins and uncle, Andy Mullins; best friend, Michelle Altizer & family. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins who are like siblings, all “her kids” and many dear friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Fady Tawadros, Dr. Alina Bhat, Dr. Michel Bidros, Deana Elswick, Julian Whited, Penny Harmon, and the entire Oncology and Infusion department of Clinch Valley Health. Their love, compassion, and kindness were evident throughout Pam’s courageous battle. They would also like to thank Dr. Thomas LeBlanc and the staff of Duke University’s Cancer Center for their exceptional care. Memorial services for Pamela Helbert will be conducted Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 7 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street, Richlands, Virginia with Tony Shrader officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be: Trevor Altizer, Adon Curley, Zach Helton, Brady Hess, Frank Killen, Andy Mullins, Gary Stiltner, and Nathan Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in Pam’s honor.
